Foundations Aim and Mission Striving to make lives better
Background
As the name suggests, Syed Zamir Jafri is the eponym of the Syed Zamir Jafri Foundation. Zamir Jafri (1916 – 1999) was a renowned poet of the Urdu literacy in Pakistan, who brought humor to his writings of poetry and newspaper columns. He published over 50 books, and devoted his life to reach out to the masses and create well-being in the society. But his services to his nation are linked before he established himself as a writer/poet and social worker, as he served in the army during World War II and retired as a major.
Following his footsteps, his son, Major General Syed Ehtasham Zamir (1951 – 2015) served a prominent role in the Pakistan army and as a former ISI chief, and later embarked on the mission to pursue his father’s mission. Zamir’s grandson, Syed Ali Ehtasham (1981 – 2014) was determined to carry out the legacy left behind, and established the SZJ foundation in July 2010, when the country was hit by one of the most catastrophic floods, affecting the lives of over 20 million people. Ali and his father co-founded the non-profit foundation, and provided aid to the underprivileged communities of Pakistan. The Mata-e-Zamir was also established upon their supervision, which comprised of ZamirJafri’s books and contributions made for the Urdu language.
Jabir reported that the Prophet said: Avoid doing injustice to others, for on the Day of Judgment, it will turn into manifold darkness, and safeguard yourself against miserliness, for it ruined those who were before you. It incited them to murder and treating the unlawful as lawful. (Muslim)
